New Hockey Era?
On Sunday, nine New College hockey players took to a, rather wet, pitch against eleven of St. Peter’s/Hertford. Captain Max Ohrstrand was, as usual, absent from proceedings and so we had yours truly in charge, AGAIN! New College battled hard and got a deserved lead in the opening fifteen minutes through Ed Chesney with a well-worked goal. New dominated until half time, with St. Peter’s/Hertford only managing one shot on target.
In the second half St. Peter’s/Hertford came out refreshed and soon struck an equaliser with rather poor ‘keeping from myself to blame. A quick response ensued with James Ramsey and Alex Hadcock delivering a magnificent break and finish. The final 20 minutes had New camped inside their D, with heroic defending from Ian Clark and Isabelle Ouwehand keeping New ahead. At full time, it was clear that nine from New equals better than eleven from two other colleges! The result ensures that New College are promoted to Division One, where we belong. Also this Monday, New beat St. Anne’s/Somerville “Anne Somers”) 3-1 in Cuppers with goals from Alex Hadcock and two from returning captain Max Ohrstrand. The question is, can New keep this unbeaten run going and become champions of both League and Cuppers hockey? (And will Max turn up?)
